He shoots, he scores… again. Lionel Messi has taken the lead for the most-liked post ever on Instagram, with a photo of him lifting the World Cup.
Winning the golden trophy just wasn’t enough for the Argentinian star, after his side beat France in a historic World Cup final on Sunday.
His subsequent post on the social media platform received more than 61 million likes, surpassing the previous record holder – an infamous picture of an egg which had 56.6 million likes.
The World Record Egg Instagram is now filled with fans making jokes and celebrating another Messi victory.
One user commented “Messi is cooking an egg omelette”, while another said: “King surpassed it.”
In Messi’s record-breaking post, the football legend is seen embracing his win, smiling in glory, as he lifts the trophy above his head.
The caption read: “CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it that I still don’t fall, I can’t believe it.”
