Piers Morgan has apologised to Ed Sheeran after hackers took control of his Twitter account and used it to send abusive Tweets.
The media personality, 57, was temporarily locked out his account at the end of last month after being targeted by the hackers.
His official account shared a series of posts containing false information, racial slurs and abusive messages about people, including Sheeran and the late Queen.
In one post directed at Sheeran, Morgan’s account, which has more than 8.3 million followers, tweeted the Shape Of You singer with the words: “Ginger p****”
But Morgan, who returned to Twitter on Sunday night, having last posted on December 26, explained that he had been “hacked”.
He said: “By the way, apologies for all the abusive nonsense posted on my feed after I was hacked (yes, yes, do your own jokes) on Boxing Day, and in particular to @edsheeran who I think is a very gifted singer-songwriter with a fine head of hair, not a ‘ginger p****’.”

The offensive posts have since been removed.
The former Good Morning Britain (GMB) host joined TalkTV as the host of its Uncensored show last year, after quitting the ITV breakfast show following an altercation with a co-host over the Duchess of Sussex.

Earlier this month, the Metropolitan Police said no further action would be taken against a man suspected of sending death threats to Morgan and his family online.

On Twitter, Morgan previously complained there is a “big problem with how big tech operates its safety procedures”.
It comes after the account of Education Secretary Gillian Keegan appeared to have been hacked on Christmas Day.
Her account replied to a number of tweets with links to websites advertising cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
